Young Engineer of the Year

Todd Trautz 2014 Young Engineer of the Year

Todd Trautz, P.E. has been selected by the Central Pennsylvania Engineers Week Council to receive the 2014 Young Engineer of the Year Award.  Todd is a member of the Mid-Atlantic Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (MASITE) and the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE).

Todd was born in Michigan and went to high school in Long Valley, NJ.  He moved to the Harrisburg area upon graduating from college in 2007 and currently resides in Upper Allen Township with his wife and newborn son.

Todd Trautz graduated with distinction from the Pennsylvania State University at University Park with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree.  While in attendance at Penn State, Todd became a member of Tau Beta Pi, The Engineering Honor Society, and Chi Epsilon, The National Civil Engineering Honor Society.  The focus of Todd's academic studies was traffic and transportation engineering.  Prior to attending Penn State, Todd attended the United States Military Academy at West Point for two years during which he graduated from the United States Army's Airborne School in Fort Benning, GA.

Upon graduation from Penn State, Todd began his professional career as a traffic engineer with Pennoni Associates, Inc. in Mechanicsburg, PA.  During his five years with Pennoni, Todd worked on a variety of private and public agency transportation and traffic engineering projects. Notable projects include the reconstruction of the George Street and Frederick Street intersection in Millersville, PA, executing vehicle and pedestrian safety efforts through PennDOT's Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP), and providing traffic engineering services for Pennsylvania's Safe Routes to School Program to 42 schools across Pennsylvania.

Mr. Trautz currently works as a project manager for Michael Baker Jr., Inc. in Harrisburg, PA.  Todd spends the majority of his time working with the PennDOT Traffic Operations staff at PennDOT Central Office and the Traffic Engineering and Operations Departments at the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. At PennDOT, Todd is responsible for the development and implementation of PennDOT's congestion management and operations initiatives and the implementation of a statewide traffic signal maintenance and operations program. At the Turnpike Commission, Todd is responsible for various traffic operations and institutional efforts.

Outside of the workplace, Todd regularly shares his passion for civil engineering and promotes the traffic engineering profession with peers, students, and the public. Mr. Trautz frequently speaks at professional conferences on topics relevant to the industry and he volunteers his time to organize professional functions. For the past five years, Todd has been a volunteer judge at the regional Technical Student Association (TSA) conference where high school and middle school students compete in various science, technology, and engineering events.  In his personal life, Todd takes part in the Big Brothers Big Sisters Capital City Region's Bowl for Kid's Sake event each year and regularly helps with service projects for Daybreak Church in Mechanicsburg, PA with his family and church group.
