Engineer of the Year

Kenneth S. Jones 2013 Engineer of the Year

Kenneth S. Jones, P.E. has been selected by the Central Pennsylvania Engineers Week Council to receive the 2013 Engineer of the Year Award. Kenneth is a member of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers and is employed with HNTB, Inc.

Mr. Jones graduated in 1985 from Purdue University (West Lafayette, IN) with a BSCE and is a structural engineer with more than 27 years of experience.  He has both design and inspection experience.  The inspection work falls into two main fields inspection of in-service facilities and construction inspection.  The design work started in Central Ohio with Burgess and Niple, Limited, where he met his wife, Rhonda.  After moving to the Pittsburgh area he received his Pennsylvania PE license in January 1990.  He has been involved with some very large projects over the years primarily on the east coast.  Some impressive projects include the following:

In addition Mr. Jones has taught more than 45 bridge inspection and design courses across the US to various agencies including: PennDOT, PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Maryland State Highway Administration, Vermont Agency of Transportation, Idaho Transportation Department, New York State Thruway Authority, New Jersey Turnpike Authority, Delaware River Port Authority, Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, the US Forest Service, and many other Departments of Transportation.  His involvement with these courses has spanned nearly 20 years thru contracts with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) covering the following courses:

Mr. Jones obtained a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Purdue University in1985. His continued course work at Penn State and University of Delaware includes: Bridge Design I CE 496A, Structural Analysis by Matrix Methods CE 447A, Bridge Design II CE 596A, and Foundation & Earth Retaining Structure Design. He is a professional engineer in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio and Arizona. Specialty certifications include: Certified Bridge Inspector, NCEES Model Engineer, OSHA 10-hour Training, and Railroad Safety Training. He is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers, Association for Bridge Construction and Design, and American Society of Highway Engineers.
