2010 Engineer of the Year

Larry M. Brown, P.E. 2010 Engineer of the Year

Larry M. Brown, P.E. has been named Engineer of the Year for 2010 by the Central Pennsylvania Engineers Week Council.

Larry is a past Chairman of the Central Pennsylvania Engineers Week Council (CPEWC), a group of 16 Engineering Societies/Chapters in the mid-State area. He is also a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and the NSPE and PSPE. Additionally, he is a Registered Professional Engineer (Electrical) in the Commonwealth of PA.

Larry retired in 2003 after 32 years with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. During that period he served as the Commonwealth’s Director of Telecommunication in addition to several other management level positions in the Information Technology field. Prior to those positions, he was an electrical engineering supervisor and consultant with the Dept. of Public Welfare’s Bureau of Facilities Management and the Land Mobile Branch Chief with the Federal Communications Commission. Larry also worked as a Development Engineer with the former AMP Inc., and Verizon, formerly Bell Telephone, as a PBX Design Engineer. Currently, Larry is working part-time for CET Engineering Services as a Project Engineer.

Larry earned a BSEE from the Carnegie Institute of Technology (CIT, now Carnegie Mellon Univ.) and a MSIS from Shippensburg University. Additionally, he was the Honor Graduate of the Air War College, Maxwell AFB, Alabama, the Senior Air Force Officer Management School. His Air Force career spanned almost 30 years, starting as an ROTC cadet at CIT and ending as the Director of Communications and Computer Systems for the Pa. Air National Guard. He retired in 1994 as a Colonel with an honorary final promotion to the rank of Brigadier General.

Larry lives in the Chambers Hill area of Harrisburg with his wife Linda and their four cats. His son, William, is employed as Database Administrator with the Governor’s Office of Administration and his daughter, Jennifer, is a Parole Officer with Dauphin County. Larry enjoys skiing, sailing, pistol shooting, bicycling and mentoring youth. He is also active with the Harrisburg Habitat for Humanity and his church.
