Larry Brown 2013 Educational Outreach

Larry M. Brown, P.E. has been selected by the Central Pennsylvania Engineers Week Council (CPEWC) to receive the 2013 John H. McCormick Educational Outreach Award. The award focuses on his ongoing efforts to expose students to the world of engineering, science and technology. He has achieved this recognition through a lifetime of continuing efforts to mentor youth by making presentations, working side-by-side on projects, and demonstrating the fun and values found in pursuing a technical career.

Larry has a BS in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, an MS in Information Systems from Shippensburg University, and worked towards an MS in Engineering Science at Penn State University.  Additionally, he was an Honor Graduate of the Air War College, Maxwell AFB along with attending numerous AF Technical Schools.  Larry has worked as both an electrical engineer and information technology manager for almost 50 years. Accompanying this, he has served as a judge for the Capital Area Science and Engineering Fair for many years along with helping at the PSPE’s Math Counts. Additionally, he presents an “Engineering Ethics” program to Masters Candidates at PSU Harrisburg.

Besides working with youth, Larry has also been extremely active with the local and National Engineering Societies. He has been the Past Chairman 4 times over the last 25 years for the Susquehanna Section, IEEE and is currently the Alternate State Director and Audit Committee Chairman for the PSPE. In 2010 he was awarded the Engineer of the Year Award by the CPEWC for his professional accomplishments along with his community and education outreach efforts. Currently, he also serves as Co-Chair of the Electrical Engineering Technical Advisory Board for the Pennsylvania State University in Harrisburg.

Larry lives in the Chambers Hill area of Harrisburg and is married to the former Linda Reindel of Harrisburg. They have two children, Jennifer and William, who are both married and also live in the Harrisburg area. He has two granddaughters, Samantha and Rhyan, who are the lights of his life!
