2009 John H. McCormick Educational Outreach Award

Louis A. Felice 2009 Educational Outreach

Louis A. Felice, P.E., has been selected by the Central Pennsylvania Engineers Week Council to receive the 2009 John H. McCormick Educational Outreach Award. The award focuses on his dedication and considerable efforts exposing students to the world of engineering through school visits, mentoring, science and career fairs, E-week activities, and his involvement with Junior Achievement.

Lou has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from Drexel University and is a licensed Professional Engineer. Lou started his engineering career in Michigan, spending four years as project and applications engineer with The Diversey Wyandotte Corporation. He then joined The Hershey Company, where he has been employed for twenty one years in various process engineering roles in process development, manufacturing technical services, and process optimization. Lou is currently the Manager of the Process Optimization Department at The Hershey Company.

Lou is an active member of the Susquehanna Section of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). He currently serves as Educational Outreach Regional Coordinator, arranging volunteer speakers for local school outreach presentations, career days, and shadow opportunities. Lou has volunteered over the years as a presenter at local K through 12 schools and colleges speaking on engineering careers, exhibiting at career fairs, and participating as a panel speaker. Lou has also supported educational outreach as a special awards judge for the Capital Area Science and Engineering Fair, E-week table demonstrator at the Whittaker Center, and is involved in various outreach events through the Hershey Company. In addition, Lou has been involved with the Sci Tech High School Community Partnership Program, is on the steering committee for Middletown High School Pathways program, and is on the steering committee for Junior Achievement’s Young Men’s Futures Symposium, where he is chair of the School Liaison subcommittee, and volunteers as a facilitator, mentor, and panel speaker. Lou is on the AIChE Susquehanna Section scholarship selection committee, and is currently coordinating a fundraising drive for this scholarship. In addition, Lou is involved at the AIChE National level where he is collaborating with other local section members on the development of a K-12 educational outreach web site for AIChE.

Lou is actively involved in his community as a soccer coach for the Hershey Youth Soccer Association, is a chaperone, pit crew volunteer, and member of the Hershey High School Band Parents, and is a greeter, youth group adult leader, and youth group newsletter editor for St. Joan of Arc Church in Hershey. He has also volunteered for the Harrisburg Food Bank and Habitat for Humanity over the past several years.

Lou resides in Hershey with his wife of twenty two years, Valerie. He has two Children, a son Tony, who is in his junior year at Carnegie Mellon University studying Electrical and Computer Engineering, and a daughter Jessica, who is a senior at Hershey High School.
